John 14

CHAPTER 14

Jesus speaks of many mansions; says he is the way, the truth, and the life; that to see him is to see the Father—He promises the first and second Comforters.

1 Let not your heart be atroubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
2 In my Father’s ahouse are many bmansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will acome again, and receive you unto myself; that bwhere cI am, there ye may be also.

6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the away, the btruth, and the life: no man ccometh unto the Father, but by me.

7 If ye had aknown me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.
10 Believest thou not that I am in the aFather, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
11 Believe me that I am ain the bFather, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.
12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that abelieveth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I bgo unto my cFather.
13 And whatsoever ye shall aask in my bname, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
18 I will not leave you acomfortless: I will bcome to you.
19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.
21 He that hath my commandments, and akeepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be bloved of my Father, and I will love him, and will cmanifest myself to him.
26 But the aComforter, which is the bHoly Ghost, whom the Father will send in my cname, he shall dteach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
27 aPeace I leave with you, my bpeace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be ctroubled, neither let it be afraid.
30 Hereafter I will not talk much with you: afor the bprince of this cworld cometh, and hath nothing in me.

COMMENTARY

3 - Jesus Christ, the Highest Priest, was the only being capable of overcoming physical death.  He prepared a place for all the children of God through His victory over death.  The moment Christ died on the cross, the veil of the temple was "rent twain".  Before the resurrection of Jesus Christ no one could return back to the presence of the Father.

4 - The tabernacle is a model of the path Jesus Christ walked upon.  By following the example of the Son of the Living God, we have access to His mercy for we are saved by grace, after we do all that we can do.  Christ must do the rest.

6 - The Gate of the tabernacle is the Way.  The Door of the sanctuary is a symbol of receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, or the Spirit of Truth.  The Veil is a symbol of receiving eternal Life.  As we pass into the Most Holy Place, we have access to the Tree of Life.  We have returned back to the presence of the father.

15 - How can anyone possibly say they love Jesus Christ yet choose not to be willing to follow everything he has commanded?

16 - Only those people who are baptized by God's representatives on the Earth, and receive the Holy Ghost through the same, will have full access to the Comforter.  The guidance of the Holy Ghost upon a member of Christ's church, is symbolized by the Golden Candlestick.  All members of Christ's church have spiritually entered into the Holy Place.  Such person's have overcome spiritual death through Jesus Christ. They have kept the commandments by by receiving the ordinances of the gospel as He has commanded.  You choose to enter this room.  When you do not keep the commandments, you voluntarily choose to exist this room, and the divine light which guides.

17 - An observer standing outside the Holy Place cannot see or observe the influence of the Golden Candlestick.  Anyone who is not a member of the Church of Christ, has not spiritually entered into the Holy Place.  They have not received the Gift of the Holy Ghost.  They are still in the world.  All are invited to enter, but only by entering the straight and narrow path as God has commanded.  Any person who says otherwise denies the supreme Sovereignty of the the Lord God.

19 - The influence of the divine light is meant to assist members of the Church of Christ as they endure to the end of their lives in keeping the commandments of God.  They are spiritually within the Holy Place, and have access to the Comforter during the trials of their lives.

27 - The Lord grants peace through the Holy Ghost.  The Holy Ghost confirms within our hearts the will of the Lord in all matters.

28 - Christ went away for three days after his death.  He came back as a resurrected being, having gained the victory over death for all the children of God.  This is why he admonished the Apostles to rejoice.  We can all now enter through the Veil back to the presence of the Father thanks to Jesus Christ.

31 - After this, Christ went out with the Apostles to the Garden.  As the High Priest entered into the Most Holy Place once a year on the day of the Atonement, Christ was preparing to return to the Most Holy of all Places, the presence of His Father.  This he did to enact the only Atonement whereby the children of God can be saved.  The Father had commanded Him to come down to Earth for this express purpose.
